Greetings dear friend,

The holiday season is upon us. It’s thanksgiving day. Having grown up in Africa, this day doesn’t mean shit to me. Living in the west right now, this is a major holiday where people travel from far away to be with their families and eat crazy amounts of food. With all this gathering of people, there’s going to be a lot of phoniness going around. Today’s post deals about that topic.

It’s All Appearances

It starts with hiding the way you feel with different masks you put on for different people and different occasions. It then transforms into hiding your appearance with makeup, fake eyelashes and the whole nine yards. From then on, the person sitting across from me at the dinner table is a complete facade.

Why are we being phony right now? Although we’re family… We’re complete strangers. We know each other yet we don’t know who we are.

Mom thinks you’re in school for nursing and working as a waitress to pay for it. She doesn’t know you have sugar daddies who you blow for dough. She doesn’t know you strip in front of your webcam for random strangers.

Mom still thinks you’re the same shy little Sarah, although you’ve been to numerous sex parties and sometimes have intercourse for Dolce and Gabbana handbags.

It’s all appearances.

Mom’s still wondering why you haven’t found a girlfriend yet. “Andrew, you’re a good lucking guy, it’s time for you to find a girlfriend”. Mom doesn’t know you don’t swing that way.

Mom still thinks you’re too focused on your studies. She hasn’t realized you’ve developed a coke habit and haven’t been to school in three semesters.

It’s all appearances.

Tumbling Down

The phonies always come crashing down. It can be caused by a little misstep. It can be caused by a little slip of the tongue. It can be caused by a multitude of other reasons. But sooner or later, the charade comes to an end.

Mom had to print something from the cloud, her computer wasn’t working so she grabbed Sarahs real quick. What she saw next felt like getting stabbed in the eye balls with a million needles.

Mom sucks at using computers. While trying to get her flash drive to work on Sarah’s computer, she accidentally click on a folder that changed it all. The folder contained pictures and videos of her precious little Sarah getting used like a piece of meat by a bunch of old guys with pregnant hairy bellies. Illusion destroyed.

It all comes tumbling down.

Andrew brought a “friend” from school over this thanksgiving. Mom was disappointed it’s not a girl. After Dinner, Andrew and friend went up to Andrews room to relax. A while goes by and up the stairs mom goes to ask if they wanted dinner.

As she opens Andrews bedroom door, what she sees feels like someone stomping on her heart until it shatters. Her baby boy was face down ass up, with his friend going to town on that ass.

It all comes tumbling down.

It’s the gathering of the phonies. Out of fear or whatever else excuse people decide to hide behind, they put on masks to hide their true selves from the people they care about.

They lie for decades because they can’t bear the thought of being honest once. It’s the gathering of the phonies.

This holiday season, make it different. Drop the mask completely. Be unapologetically you. Open yourself up. Accept yourself for who you are, and don’t hide behind masks anymore.

Stop deceiving people. You might never know how accepting they are until you put them to the test.

Until next time
Your phony proof friend
